The Egyptian Salts and Minerals Company “EMISAL” was established in accordance with the Ministerial Decree No. 107/1984 on September 1^st 1984, and in line with the Egyptian Investment Law No. 43 for the year 1974.

The Company’s capital is L.E 76.25 million shared between the National Bank of Egypt, the Bank of Alexandria, the National Investment Bank, the Chemical Industries Company (EHC), the Egyptian Re-Insurance Company, the Industrial Development Bank and the Services Fund of the Fayoum Governorate.

The Company’s auspices is located on the southern coast of lake Qaroun in an area, know as Batnet Abuksah which lies between Latitudes 29º 26¯ 00"  ,29º 31¯ 00" North and Longitudes 30º 22¯ 30" , 30º 48¯ 45" East and covers about 264 square Kilometers.

 It can be reached through the newly constructed asphaltic road which runs for 90 Km connecting Cairo with lake Qarun.

Lake Qarun occupies the northern part of the Fayoum Depression, in the form of as an isolated spindle – shape water body, trending E-W with a maximum width of about 8 Km. in the central part.

It is a closed lake, which receives only agricultural drainage waters from the cultivated lands to its south through three main drainage canals. Salinity of the lake increased gradually in the last decades to exceed that of seawater at present . This affected enormously the fish yield of the Lake.
