ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES |
The water influx into the Lake , through El Bats, El Wadi and other
agricultural drainage canals and pump stations, is about 450 million
cubic meters per year, charged with more than 500,000 tons of different
salts, the added to Lake water. The total dissolved solids (T.D.S) in the
drainage water ranges between 1000 and 1500 ppm |
The rapid increase in the drainage water salinity is attributed to the
fact that new parts of the desert lands surrounding the Fayoum
Depression are under reclamation. This involves washing the salt
contained in them into the drainage water. Moreover, it is a current
procedure at present to mix the drainage water with some Nile water to
be used repeatedly for the irrigation of other new areas and hence
adding to the salinity of the drainage water .
